President's Message

Welcome to Chonnam National University!

Chonnam National University aims to lead the way for the development of local communities as well as expand its presence in the international community. CNU arouses the hope and excitement of local citizens in both good times and bad. The university also serves as a pillar of local society, wherever you are whether in Gwangju, the Hub City of Asian Culture, at the Yeosu World Expo, at the Choemdan Industrial Complex, at the fields, mountains or sea for new agricultural and bio products,or a place where democracy and peace have been established and human rights are defended, CNU will accompany its surrounding communities.

CNU aims at building a "World Class" university, meeting the "Global Standard" with an open campus and administrative system. The university places a priority on drawing mutual understanding between members rather than providing an ad hoc measure when addressing pending issues. We do not hastily cut down a tree, saying it does not bear fruit. We take good care of the tree, watering it and nurturing its growth. If Chonnam National University hasto choose between a self-complacent and selfish A+ and a cooperative and harmonizing A-, we would rather receive the A-.

Today, universities are constantly required to reform themselves. Just as we cannotavoid the oncoming cold winter, we also cannot turn back the tides of change. Do not be afraid of change. Paris, the center of the fashion universe, continuously transforms itself to stay at the top. Nothing in life worth having comes without effort. The dragon and the phoenix, the symbols of CNU, can only soar after they claw their way out of their eggs. Time is not sufficient to make great strides immediately. All we are asking is "Just One Step Ahead!" with CNU. Wewill then be able to continue building a university with a proud tradition and reputation that raises the hope and excitement of the residents in the surrounding communities.
