Library

The University Library currently has a floor area of 22,000 ㎡ and includes the main library, an annex, and several branch libraries. In total, the complex seats more than 5,300 persons and houses more than 680,000 (1,190,000 volumes) books and 20,000 journals and periodicals. An electronic library system has also been adopted to remain consistent with the information-oriented age of the 21st century and includes multimedia data and resources, an Internet-based online database, and electronic journals and books.
The University Library provides information necessary for academic research in a manner that may be accessed conveniently by students and faculty members. Library materials (including electronic domestic and overseas journals and books) may be found and accessed through the Library website. The Library's interlibrary loan service allows materials not physically present in CNU to be acquired from other domestic or overseas universities through requests made by fax or mail. Material reservation may also be carried out online.
Student Residence Halls
Gwangju campus
Eight student residence halls at CNU accommodate 2,064 persons with quadruple and double occupancy rooms (1,034 male and 1,030 female students). The housing assignment quota is comprised of 60% freshmen, 35% non-freshmen undergraduate students, and 5% graduate students. Housing is assigned at the start of each semester (including summer and winter school). Students who are assigned housing in the spring semester have priority in each of the following semesters over the course of the year.
Housing units in the residence halls are equipped with desks, chairs, bookshelves, beds, wardrobes, telephones that allow for incoming calls and on-campus outgoing calls, and fans. The halls have communal facilities as shower rooms, laundry rooms (with washing machines), reading rooms, stores, lounges (with cable TVs, air conditioner, vending machines, hot-cold water purifiers, and microwave ovens), heating systems, and fitness rooms. International students will be given priority over Korean students for the first two years of study with regards to securing space in the CNU residence hall.
Yeosu campus
Two dormitories at CNU Dundeokdong campus accommodate 828 persons with double occupancy cells (three cells per one room, 534 male and 294 female students). Housing is assigned at the start of each semester (including summer and winter school). Students who are assigned housing in the spring semester have priority in each of the following semesters over the course of the year.
Housing units in the dormitory are equipped with desks, chairs, bookshelves, beds, wardrobes, telephones that allow for incoming calls and on-campus outgoing calls, shower rooms. The halls have communal facilities as laundry rooms (with washing machines), reading rooms, stores, lounges (with cable TVs, vending machines, hot-cold water purifiers, and a refrigerator), heating systems, and fitness rooms.
International students will be given priority over Korean students in the CNU Dundeokdong campus dormitory.
The University Museum
The University Museum opened in May 1957, and moved to Yongbong Culture Hall in June 2002. The museum collection currently comprises 35,000 pieces. The artifacts vary from prehistoric remains to historical items worthy of study.
The University Museum collects, preserves, and exhibits artifacts of history, archaeology, art history, anthropology, and folklore, and excavates and surveys cultural materials. It also hosts a series of lectures on traditional culture and art for students and the general public every semester.
As attached organizations, the Office of University History and the Korea Dinosaur Research Center were established in 1997 and 2001, respectively.

Language Education Center
Language Education Center provides practical English language courses and programs, offers Korean language teacher training programs, and administers a variety of language proficiency tests and examinations. Among its broad range of facilities for students are a video viewing room, a listening room, multimedia rooms, a listening lab, a recording studio, seminar rooms, a resource library, several student lounges, and an auditorium.

Health Service Center
The Health Service Center has actively provided health services to faculty members, staff, and students since it was established in 1957. The services include yearly physical check-ups for students, and non-credit courses on preventive medicine, health management, and campus environment management. It also offers mandatory insurance to students.

Equipment Management and Maintenance Center
The more efficiently manage the University's research and educational facilities, two organizations, the Educational Equipment Service Center and Public Experiment Center, were merged into the Equipment Management and Maintenance Center (EMMC) in 2001. The EMMC affords the opportunity to use advanced research facilities not commonly found in individual laboratories. The EMMC also provides the maintenance services for experimental equipment.

Animal Hospital
The Animal Hospital was established in 1957 and provides medical services for animals in clinical areas such as internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics, radiology, and clinical examination. The Hospital has also contributed to the research and training of veterinary students and faculty members.

School of Lifelong Education
Opened in 1997, the School of Lifelong Education stands to deliver lifelong learning into the daily lives of our citizens. It has the most diversified educational programs in Korea, taught by prominent instructors, including CNU faculty members. In the first semester of 2007, the School offered over 172 courses and had nearly 5,300 registered students.

Agro-Bioindustry Technical Support Center
Plant Resources Section
The agricultural farm encompasses 46,206㎡ of trees and gardens, four greenhouses measuring 867㎡, 165㎡, 340㎡, and 1,569㎡ each in the Yongbong campus, as well as a farm measuring 187,506㎡ in Bonghwang-Myon, Naju. Together with its agricultural machinery, the farm provides experimental opportunities for both students and faculty members.
Forest Resources Section
The Experimental Forest station consists of the Nursery in the Yongbong campus and the Jangseong and Bogildo Forest Experimental stations, each providing students and faculty with natural resources for experimentation and related research.
Animal Resources Section
Since 1969, the animal farm has contributed not only to research, experiments, and student training, but also to the development of the local livestock industry.

Education Development Research Institute
The Education Development Research Institute (EDRI) was founded in 2005 to cultivate a university culture that is creative, cooperative, and challenging. In pursuit of this goal, the Institute provides support to the university teaching and learning community through workshops, seminars, and resources for students and faculty members alike. CNU Press and Broadcasting Center
The CNU Press and Broadcasting Center (CNUPBC) was founded as a general organ of expression in 1995 through the unification of the existing campus news media: Jeondae Shinmun, Chonnam Tribune, and Chonnam National University Broadcasting (CUB). With the integration of CNU and Yeosu National University on March 1, 2006, the CNUPBC established a branch on CNU's Yeosu campus. The Center has currently played important role in providing accurate and reliable news and information, and establishing common agendas in order to promote com- munication and generate public opinions on campus issues.
The Jeondae Shinmun, a biweekly Korean newspaper, has been in circulation since 1954. In celebration of its foundation, it has held the Contest for Literary and Academic Works every year since 1970.
The Chonnam Tribune, a bimonthly English magazine, had initially been published monthly in tabloid form beginning in 1968. It was converted into a 32-page quarterly magazine format in 1995, and is currently being issued bimonthly as a 36-page magazine. To commemorate the anniversary of its foundation, it holds the English Essay Contest each year.
CUB has been broadcasting a variety of programs such as campus news and music since 1967, and has held the Yongbong Song Festival annually since 1972.
In 2005, the CNUPBC established a comprehensive news portal called CNU News by revamping the branched websites of the three news media into a complementary organic whole. On March 2, 2007, the CNUPBC revised its website to CONG (http://www.mycong.com), an abbreviation of CNU Opinon and News Gate. This site strives to provide news and useful information, and promote open dialogue within the regional community as well as within the CNU community.

Sports Center
The Sports Center at CNU was established on April 9, 2006. Located on the Yongbong campus, the Center aims to meet the needs of people who pursue healthy living by offering regular exercise programs to improve well being and fitness among modern people. The goals of the Sports Center are: to offer a space for the general public to partake in physical exercise, to provide systematic and diverse physical programs, and to offer quality services and facilities. Among the activities available at the Center include general fitness, badminton, dance sports, golf, yoga, jazz dance, pilates, and belly dance. The Center also carries out physical strength measurements for its members.
